Senior Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics
Department of Language and Linguistic Science
University of York, England

My research is in the field of language variation and change, with a focus on grammatical and discourse-pragmatic variation in dialects of English.

I am particularly interested in language-internal constraints on variation and change. My research often integrates insights/methods from the field of syntax with quantitative variationist sociolinguistic analysis to help understand the structure underlying linguistic variation. I also use comparative methods to establish how these structures - and social patterns in their use - vary across   geographical space.
